During a soccer match between Tehran’s Persepolis and a club from Tabriz in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Tuesday, July 27th, protesting spectators set stadium seats ablaze.
Fearing protesting spectators, the authorities had taken measures to allow the minimum number of spectators into the stadium and provided no service to transfer Tabriz fans to Tehran for the game, reports from inside Iran indicate. The match ended with Persepolis winning one nil. Protesters, chanting slogans against the clerical regime, set stadium seats ablaze. Following the start of the blaze inside, numerous fire trucks and ambulances rushed to the stadium, witnesses said.
