Another failed visit – IAEA inspectors return empty handed

On Thursday, December 13th, an IAEA delegation led by Herman Nackaerts participated in negotiations with Iranian officials in Tehran, leading to no results other than another round of negotiations planned for January 16th, 2013.
Prior to this trip, IAEA officials attempted to gain Tehran’s agreement to visit the Parchin military site, southeast of Tehran. However, according to Reuters, Iran did not permit such a measure and this comes at a time when international community concerns are escalating over suspicious activities at Parchin.
Another objective of this visit was for IAEA inspectors to meet with Iran’s nuclear experts, yet the mullahs did not provide such permissions either.
As a result, upon the delegation’s return to Vienna, the French Foreign Ministry spokesman said negotiations did not bear the desired results.
