Amnesty International Warned against the Increased Number of Executions in Iran

In its public statement on 18 October Amnesty International expressed alarm at the new wave of executions in Iran and said that it has already recorded almost 250 executions since the beginning of 2007, although the true total of those put to death could be significantly higher.

The statement also pointed out to the execution of 14 people on 17 October in Tehran, Shiraz and Sanandaj.

The AI in its statement also expressed its opposition to “death penalty” as the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. The organization also called on the Iranian regime to annul all death sentences.
