More than 100 contract workers from Ahwaz sewage system went on strike on Sunday Dec. 29 to protest the unpaid salaries and wages. They held a rally outside the Khuzestan Province Oversight Office asking to be fully paid.
One protester said it has been little less than two years since they got part of their salary. In other words the company has been withholding a portion of their wages and refusing to release that. Not only the authorities had promised them full payments, and broke that promise, but their wages were also reduced since then. He added that he was taking part in that rally to voice his objection.
Another protester said that all of the workers in this rally have between 5 to 15 years of experience and background in this line of work, but about 8 month worth of salary has been withheld. The labor office of the province must also give its employees insurance benefits too, but that is also a history.
