“22 years in prison!” – Letter from prisoner to Ahmad Shaheed

Political prisoner Mohammad Nazari, in prison for life, has endured 22 years of torture by the Ministry of Intelligence in various prisons across Iran. He has also suffered the harshest of tortures to force him into coerced confessions. This political prisoner has recently written a letter to Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran on the dire prison conditions in Iran:
“My name is Mohammad Nazari, born in 1971. I was arrested on May 30, 1994 in the city of Bukan by Revolutionary Guards forces on charges of supporting the Iran Kurdistan Democratic Party. I was arrested while I was at my sister’s house, and then I was placed under the worst type of torture and forced to confess to matters that were completely false. They fixed up court cases against me to have me spend 22 years of my life in behind bars.
“During these 22 years I have not been allowed any leave from prison, even when my mother passed away.
“I am asking Mr. Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran to help prisoners sentenced to life in jail, especially political prisoners.”
