111 children in Iran committed suicide between the years of 2002 to 2004, said Fateme Daneshvar, a member of Tehran’s so-called city council.
Citing Daneshvar, the state-run E’temad daily reported these children were between the ages of 8 and 13 and their suicides were through poisoning.
59 of these children were boys and 52 were girls, she added.
This is the first time that such statistics on Iranian children committing suicide is announced publicly.
“Social problems are the main reasons behind children committing suicide,” Daneshvar added.
The largest number of children were from the province of Lorestan who were seen committing suicide by eating plaster.
It is worth noting that homeless children sleeping on the streets is another phenomenon brought about by the mullahs’ regime in Iran due to the extreme poverty in this country.
In the last few years there have been many reports of suicides and setting oneself on fire amongst children and students across Iran.
