NCRI, 23 January 2011 – The World Health Organization has announced that more than 10,600 people will die prematurely in 2011 as a result of air pollution, the state-run ISNA reported this week.
One third of the deaths are expected to occur among residents in Tehran and the rest from other provinces grappling with air pollution.
An official from WHO said the most important problems contributing to pollution in Tehran are a large population and high rates of consumption, including for fuel.
Official statistics suggest that more than 4,000 people have died as a result of pollution in 2010.
