The constitution drafted in the Assembly of Experts was set for referendum and was passed fraudulently.
When residing in Paris, prior to the 1979 revolution, Khomeini promised the establishment of a Constitutional assembly in which the elected representatives will discuss and approve a new constitution. But once he took power, he dishonored his promise by establishing the Assembly of Experts, made up of a bunch of reactionary mullahs, through which he imposed the inhumane principle of Velayat-e faqih in the Constitution. The people’s right to sovereignty was violated by Article 110 of the Constitution, in which the Velayat-e faqih (supreme leader) was granted special privileges with no accountability to anyone.
Despite all the dangers Khomeini and his thugs posed to the PMOI, they did not vote to this Constitution, declaring that it violated and opposed the people’s right to sovereignty and democracy.
