Murder of Qa’em Maqam Farahani, progressive chancellor in Ghajar dynasty

On February 23, 1835, Mohammad Shah Ghajar’s chancellor Qa’em Maqam Farahani was murdered. His patriotism and progressive methods sparked dissents against him in the tyrannous Ghajar monarchy and he was dismissed from his post for three years. He was reassigned to his post in 1824. After Fatehali shah’s death in 1834, he made Mohammad Shah the next king and started reforms in the government. But the shah colluded with his inner circle and reactionary clerics against Farahni. Outraged by Farahani’s measures, on February 23, 1835, Mohammad Shah called him to Negarestan Palace and murdered him. Haj MirzaAghasi replaced Farahini and from then on conditions in Iran deteriorated.
After Qa’em Maqam Farahani died, his son MirzaAbolghasem was appointed as minister in 1858.
