On Saturday, Jan. 5, 1980, Massoud Rajavi was officially introduced as the Presidential candidate on behalf of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI). This event sparked light of hope and jubilance for all freedom-lovers, intellectuals and the people who had participated in the overthrow of the Monarchial dictatorship.
Within less than a year after the Shah’s regime overthrow, Khomeini and his clan showed that they were not faithful to any of the Iranian people’s freedom-loving aspirations and would not establish their rule without employing club-wilding, executions, and suppression.
Massoud Rajavi’s entering elections created a substantial alliance among the progressive and popular currents. This was the most extensive coalition of political forces in Iran’s history which was formed based on the candidacy of Massoud Rajavi for Presidency. Nonetheless, Khomeini who had already said he wouldn’t intervene in the elections, feared of the defeat of his candidate, intervened and excluded Massoud Rajavi from the list of candidates.
