Darolfonoun, the first modern academy of Iran, was inaugurated on December 21, 1851 in Tehran with the endeavors of then Prime Minister Amirkabir.
This academy started its work with seven Austrian teachers and a number of translators who were selected from the dispatched students to France.
The fields that were taught at the beginning of Darolfonoun establishment were Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Engineering, Medicine, Surgery, Pharmacology, and Mineralogy.
Establishment of Darolfonoun Academy is considered as the beginning of the new era in the Iranian culture and education but regrettably at the inauguration day of Darolfonoun, Amirkabir was passing his exiled days in Fin Garden of Kashan (central Iranian city) and he was murdered in that garden by the order of Nassereddin Shah 13 days after inauguration of Darolfonoun.
