Syrian rebels have launched major attacks against Assad regime bases in Latakia in the country’s northwest areas, including the Nabi Younes heights around the city of Latakia.
Reports indicate Russian forces are fighting alongside Assad troops, who have suffered immense damages from the Syrian rebels. Russian forces are constructing a new airport in Latakia and military bases in Tartus.
Orient TV reported Syrian fighters were able to literally annihilate a number of Assad military positions in this area. Many Assad troops and a number of main battle tanks were destroyed in these battles. The rebels were also able to take over various mountainous areas that provided artillery cover for the Sahl al-Ghab area.
The rebels also launched Grad rockets on the Hamimin military airport. Intelligence reports from inside the airbase indicate the presence of a large number of Russian military forces in this area.
