In an article published in Asharq Al-Awsat daily by Abdul Rahman Rashed, head of Al-Arabia TV, citing the remarks of the UAE Ambassador to the US stating “The outcome of an attack on Iran is less expensive than it being armed with a nuclear bomb”, he wrote:
“Two weeks ago Iranian authorities announced their decision on the inspection of all ships that are headed to Arab ports in the region. This was in response to the UNSC resolution which stated that all ships headed for Iranian ports will be inspected upon suspicion about their shipments. The Iranian regime does not have the courage to threaten to inspect US, European and Russian ships, which are numerous in the region, rather its threats are aimed at ships that work with Arab countries, while none of the Gulf countries are involved in the UN resolution and none of these six countries have a seat in the UNSC.”
Asharq Al-Awsat wrote: “Prior to this, the Iranian regime’s authorities had stated if they were to be attacked by the US or Israel, they would attack the (Persian) Gulf countries. In such a ’poisonous’ atmosphere, it is natural for an Arab politician or a diplomat to say that the Iranian regime, being armed with nuclear weapons, is a threat to us.”
Abdul Rahman Rashed added: “The statements of the UAE Ambassador, stated in an eloquent and expressive way, is correct. He stated that we have a problem with what the Iranian regime is doing in the region today, now imagine how such a regime would act if it were to be armed with an atomic bomb?”
Abdul Rahman Rashed added: “Imagine for one second that the Iranian regime has become a nuclear power. This regime will not attack Israel because of the fact that Israel will bury it with one hundred atomic bombs. It might not even stage a nuclear attack against the (Persian) Gulf countries. Yet it will try to exert its hegemony in the region. The conclusion is that what is wrong about an Ambassador of an Arab country, stating that staging an attack on Iran today is less expensive then coexisting with it the day after it has become a nuclear power?”
