Taghyir TV (Iraq), 28 Nov 2012 – Iraqiya slate member Ms. Leqa Al-Wardi described the stances of Martin Kobler, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, regarding Camp Ashraf residents as biased and accused him of collaborating with the Iraqi government on the issue of Ashraf residents’ property.
Mr. Kobler made a commitment to resolve this issue and all of the camp residents’ assets would be sold following their transfer to Camp Liberty, Al-Wardi added.
Any change in position about this obligation is in breach of international laws since Ashraf residents’ are refugees in Iraq under the Fourth Geneva Convention, she added.
Al-Wardi accused the Iraqi government of confiscating Camp Ashraf residents’ property, which is a flagrant violation of the Iraqi constitution. These measures are taking place under foreign influence because the residents are the Iranian opposition, she said.
