Iran: 56 Sunni religious figures sentenced to 164 years behind bars

In various cities throughout the country, the Iranian regime has resorted to sentencing 56 arrested Sunni religious figures to 164 years in prison.
Twenty six of those sentenced in Wards 2, 4 and 6 of Gohardasht Prison in Karaj (west of Tehran) have been on hunger strike for the past 6 days. These Sunni religious figures, from cities throughout Iranian Kurdistan and Azerbaijan regions in the west and northwest, respectively, began their hunger strike protesting prison officials’ discriminatory behavior.
Based on information received from inside Iran, these 56 religious figures have been sentenced to a total of 164 behind bars. While the rulings issued by the mullahs’ judiciary system say nothing about these prisoners being detained in-exile, many of them are held in other cities far from where their families can visit them.
