Sheikh Ehsan Karim Mahmoud of the al-Doleim tribe in Iraq’s Diyala Province issued a declaration calling for the urgent stationing of a UN monitoring team in Camp Ashraf.
“The Iraqi people have been suffering for years from the Iranian regime’s intervention in their country, the declaration read. “Tehran has no other goal but to take over Iraq, stopping at nothing and no crime in this path. One of the Iranian regime’s main objectives in Iraq is the annihilation of its opposition the PMOI… We have recently heard Iraqi forces have once again attacked and after wounding several residents, stole a number of their Ashraf residents’ properties. Along with condemning these measures that are against humanitarian, moral and Arabic principles, we call on the UN and US forces to intervene as urgently as possible. We also call on Iraqi nationalist and democratic forces in the Iraqi government to not remain silent in the face of these crimes. They must not allow our country to become the scene of the incursion of the Iranian regime and its proxies.
