May 2, 2018— Morocco is severing diplomatic relations with Iran due to the support provided to armed groups on Moroccan soil by the Iranian offspring Lebanese Hezbollah, according to Al Arabiya. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are welcoming Morocco’s decision in this regard.
Rabat is accusing Tehran of supporting dissident groups in this country. Following the increasing amount of support for Morocco, Rabat decided to end all relations with Tehran and ordered the Iranian regime’s ambassador out of the country.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Tuesday said signs indicate various Iranian elements in the Iranian embassy in Algeria were coordinating and facilitating meetings between members of the Lebanese Hezbollah and Moroccan dissidents.
Morocco’s recent decision to sever ties with Iran and its stance against Tehran’s meddling has resulted in positive reactions. The three countries of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain sent a diplomatic letter to Morocco saying they stand shoulder to shoulder with Rabat.
A senior source in the Saudi Foreign Ministry says this country condemns Iran’s meddling in Morocco through the terrorist Lebanese Hezbollah.
UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash tweeted, "We stand with Morocco in its concern for its national issues and against Iranian interference in its internal affairs.”
In a telephone call with his Moroccan counterpart, Bahrain Foreign Minister Khalid Al Khalifa emphasized the support of Bahrain’s people and government alongside their Moroccan brothers. Al Khalifa added Morocco had made a powerful decision.
