AFP, Tehran, Iran, June 30, 2009 – Defeated Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has reiterated his demand for the cancellation of the election which returned Mahmoud Ahamdinejad to power, his website said Tuesday.
The call, published on Mousavi’s campaign website Ghalamnews, came after the powerful Guardians Council on Monday upheld the results of the June 12 election, saying there were no major irregularities.
’We emphasise the position of Mir Hossein Mousavi which is mentioned in the June 27 letter,’ Ghalamnews said, referring to a letter sent by the former premier to the Guardians Council in which he called for the election to be annulled.
The council rejected appeals for a complete rerun of the election after the Opposition complained it was rigged, but it conducted a partial recount on Monday before confirming Ahamdinejad’s victory.
