
The missile attack against Camp Liberty has received wide coverage in Arab media. The following is a brief update:
Al-Ghabas Daily (Kuwait), 11 Feb 2013 – Six Iranians were killed and dozens were wounded when mortar shells were fired on Camp Liberty. The government of Iraq chose this camp for the opposition organization PMOI. This organization said the camp was attacked by 35 rockets and mortars, some of the wounded are in critical condition.
Rooz Al-Yousef Magazine (Egypt), 11 Feb 2013 – According to PMOI Spokesperson 35 rockets and mortars hit Camp Liberty this morning resulting in six killed and dozens wounded. Some of the wounded are in critical condition. He explained that there are no shelters in that location and the residents live in containers resembling match boxes close to each other. He also warned of another massacre by the Iranian regime and Iraqi forces.
Al-Watan Daily (Bahrain), 10 Feb 2013 – In a rocket and mortar attack on ‘Camp Liberty’ west of Baghdad which is the gathering place for members of PMOI, at least five individuals were killed and nearly 40 injured. This group was delisted in June 2008 from the black list of terrorist organizations by England, followed by the EU. The US delisted them in September 2012.
Al-Yaum Daily (Saudi Arabia), 10 Feb 2013 – Iraqi police sources said six people were killed Saturday morning during a rocket attack on the opposition group PMOI in Baghdad. PMOI has called for overthrow of the religious government in Iran. This organization was delisted from US terrorist organizations last year. They consider the Quds Force responsible for this attack.
Al-Watan Al-Arabi Daily (Egypt), 10 Feb 2013 – The UN Secretary-General holds Iraq responsible for the safety and security of residents in Al Hurriyah and Ashraf, and calls for an immediate investigation into this matter and bringing perpetrators to justice.
Al-Wasat, Bahrain, 10 Feb 2013 – A source in interior ministry told AFP that five members of PMOI were killed when Camp Liberty was attacked by approximately 40 rockets and mortar shells. More than 40 individuals were wounded.
Al-Ghad Daily (Jordon), 10 Feb 2013 – In a statement from its Paris headquarters, this organization said the mortar and rocket attack happened at 0545 Saturday morning. Six members of this organization were killed, including one woman, and 50 others were wounded. UN called for an ‘immediate investigation’ of the attack.
Al-Arab Daily (Qatar), 10 Feb 2013 – A source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry said five members of PMOI were killed after 40 rockets hit Camp Liberty which houses this organization near Baghdad. 40 individuals were wounded.
Nile TV (Egypt), 10 Feb 2013 – The UN spokesperson and Iraqi security authorities announced a number of PMOI members were killed Saturday morning during a rocket attack on their camp near Baghdad. UN spokesperson Eliana Nabaa said the attack on Camp Liberty resulted in many residents being killed and wounded.
