In a parliamentarian debate in the UK House of Lords, Lord Bassam of Brighton, the spokesman of the British Home Secretary, said that since PMOI’s proscription was the only reason to include the PMOI in the EU terror list, the European list will also be reviewed.
Lord Bassam added: After deproscription of the PMOI in UK, the EU Council of Ministers must decide now about the list of European Union. I can assure you that we are in contact with our European counterparts to make sure this issue will be resolved in the European level too.
In this debate, Lord Waddington, the former British Home Secretary, said: Although we are happy of removal of the PMOI from the list of proscribed organizations, but isn’t it shocking that the government yielded to it only when the previous measure by the Home secretary was called perverse and baseless by the UK Court of Appeal that ordered for removal of the PMOI from the list?
Lord Corbett, chairman of the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, addressing the Home Secretary said: Could she precisely say what specific measures the British government will take at the European Union level to remove this restriction, and could she assign a specific date when she would discuss this issue with the council of ministers and other relevant organizations?
Home Secretary Spokesman answered Lord Corbett: UK has informed other countries of the EU and the Council of Ministers that the Home Secretary has already presented the bill of removing the PMOI from the list of proscribed organizations to the parliament.
