Mohammad Nematzadeh, Iran’s Industrial Minister said: “Parts of Iran’s oil money has been blocked in Sri Lanka due to the sanctions”. Prior to the imposition of US sanctions that went into effect last June, Sri Lanka imported 39 thousand barrels of oil per day. The Iranian Students News Agency reported that Sri Lanka’s debt to Iran over oil import stands at USD 250 million.
