Humanitarian demands must be met before Ashraf residents’ transfer to Liberty: Iraqi lawyers

The Iraqi Committee of Lawyers and Jurists in Defense of Ashraf issued a statement stressing the humanitarian demands of Ashraf residents must be met before their transfer to Camp Liberty.
This statement continued, “Pressuring our clients to depart a city which they have built through their own efforts and expenses in the past quarter of a century, without providing their minimum humanitarian needs, is nothing but robbing these individuals of their homes, a forceful evacuation and a violation of international humanitarian and human rights. Such measures are considered clear examples of crimes against humanity.
The Iraqi Committee of Lawyers and Jurists in Defense of Ashraf views the remarks made by US State Department officials on conditioning PMOI’s delisting to Ashraf residents’ departure from this camp as illegal and illogical, and is strongly condemned. We call on our clients in Camp Ashraf to refuse to cooperate with any kind of mandatory relocation until their minimum requests are met and Camp Ashraf is inspected by US forces.”
