Political prisoners Ali Moezi and Ali Amir-Gholi wrote a message to the Iranian people calling for a nationwide boycott of Friday’s twin elections, dubbing this farce as “demagogic theatrics”.
“Dear fellow countrymen,
“37 years has passed since the 1979 revolution. The Iranian people were seeking a true parliament representing people from all walks of life and religions, and a democratic society resembling the people’s will and vote.
“However, from day one the religious fascism ruling Iran acted as a barrier in this regard… leading to the crackdown in the 1980s and the massacres in the summer of 1988.
“Today, elections are merely tools used to maintain the regime’s own sources and economic interests, and the vast majority of the people must live in poverty.
“Therefore, we should not support these thieves, and on Friday we should remain in our homes and boycott these demagogic theatrics.”
