According to a new law in Iran’s Criminal Legal Procedures, regarding “crimes against the state’s internal and external security, along with organized [crimes]”, suspects must choose their lawyer or lawyers in the initial investigation stage from “official judiciary lawyers that have been approved by the judicial branch”.
A footnote of article 48 in this law emphasizes on this new limitation and adds, “The names of these lawyers will be announced by the judiciary chief.”
The new Criminal Legal Procedures in Iran have been implemented starting July 22.
