
With demonstrations continuing across various Iraqi cities, Prime Minister Dr. Haider al-Abadi announced the reforms approved by the Council of Ministers and the Parliament are legal and he will not back down at all.
“There is no going back on the reforms, and there is a need for popular pressure to improve the efficiency of the political apparatus, and accelerate the reform procedures,” the official website of the Iraqi Prime Minister wrote.
“I will not back down one bit from my people’s interest and we have chosen the right path in the government structure,” Prime Minister al-Abadi emphasized.
Iraqi President Fuad Masum called for reforms in the judiciary and protection of the Constitution, going on to condemn attacks on demonstrators.
President Masum has called for further reform measures and cooperation between political forces in the Parliament with the government and the three branches in order to implement comprehensive national agendas for reforms, the official Iraqi President website wrote. President Masum went on to stress on the necessity for further democratic freedoms for “the people who deserve freedoms”.
Dr. Ayad Allawi, President of the al-Wataniya in the Parliament expressed his support for the legitimate demands raised by the demonstrators in Baghdad and southern provinces, Al Tagheer TV reported.
