In a flagrant meddling in Iraqi affairs, the state-run Jomhouri Islami daily, in its October 5 editorial, threatened the Iraqi government that if it signs the security agreement with the United States it would collapse.
Jomhouri Islami wrote: Signing the security agreement would have dire consequences for Iraq that are not tolerable whatsoever.
The first consequence is the downfall of the government that signs the agreement. The objections stated by religious figures are the most explicit and strongest opposition to the presence of occupiers in Iraq and leaves no doubt, and the people clearly know what to do with any government that signs such an agreement. Therefore, Iraqi politicians will not dare sign such an agreement; if they commit such a mistake, they will not be able to stay in power any longer.
Second consequence: popular resistance against the occupiers will intensify.
Third consequence: the pressures on Washington administration from inside the U.S. would increase.
