Syrian regime officials will be prosecuted for the use of chemical gases against civilians, according to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2235/2015 passed unanimously on Friday, August 7th.
US representative Samantha Power said after the vote that the Security Council has taken another step to prevent the use of chemical weapons in Syria. This was a necessary measure because despite another ruling against the use of chemical weapons this practice was continuing in Syria, she added.
According to this resolution the Syrian regime was to destroy all its chemical weapons under UN supervision, yet aggressions against the Syrian people continued, and rages on today.
Power went on to refer to the chlorine gas attack against the city of Sermin in Syria that left many children and elderly people dead. Even trees and plants in villages targeted by chemical weapons and chlorine gas have become yellow colored and they are being destroyed one by one.
Furthermore, even animals are suffocating to death. After a few hours from a chlorine attack 200 people were transferred to hospital.
