AFP, Washington, 7 Oct 2011 – Syria is escalating its campaign against the opposition by attacking its leaders, the US State Department said Friday.
‘This is a clear escalation of regime tactics,’ State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, adding opposition figures have been arrested and allegedly tortured but not attacked ‘on the streets in broad daylight.’
