Fatemeh Abbasi, 77, known to the other members of the MEK and Camp Liberty residents as “mother Fatemeh” died in Camp Liberty on Tuesday following a long battle with cancer. She was denied transfer to other countries for medical care despite efforts by the PMOI officials and physicians of the Global Migration Organization to move her to a better facility.
Mother Fatemeh was severely shaken and traumatized on Thursday during almost 10 minutes of heavy barrage of missile raining down on the camp. The Thursday missile attack in Camp Liberty left 24 people dead and scores wounded.
Mother Fatemeh, a former political prisoner who suffered severe torture and ill-treatment in the hands of the Iranian clerical regime, finally passed away at 1945 local time Tuesday in Camp Liberty, near Baghdad international airport.
