Syria: shocking status reported of Aleppo Prison

The Assad regime intends to cover up its crimes in Aleppo Prison by evacuating everyone from this facility and keeping the detainees away from the public eye, Orient TV reported.
Human rights organizations in Syria have published a report on the dire situation of Aleppo Central Prison inmates, referring to just the tip of the iceberg of Assad’s crimes against those arrested. These reports indicate the number of prisoners who lost their lives was very high. The inmates were held in critical conditions in this prison.

Hunger, cold weather, breathing illnesses and others were the reasons behind many of the deaths. Of course torture and execution were also amongst the main elements behind the prisoners’ deaths. According to shocking numbers due to the spread of illness 300 inmates were killed. Those individuals who have been able to come out of prison have said a large number of other prisoners were held in a small area without minimum hygiene accommodations. These inmates would receive only 1 meal a day.
In another section of this report there is a reference to Red Crescent documents saying, “30 inmates were executed and their names were not revealed. Nine of them were executed in public.
“Each day at least 10 of those arrested during demonstrations and clashes would lose their lives under torture at the hands of Assad’s criminal forces.
“The number of Aleppo Prison’s inmates was estimated to be 5,000, with at least 400 political prisoners among them. Over 1,000 of these inmates were arrested during peaceful demonstrations, 170 of whom are women.”
