The Kurdistan Intellectuals Society issued a statement condemning the attack on Ashraf residents carried out by forces of the Iranian regime and the Iraqi government.
“We in the Kurdistan Intellectuals Society raise our protest regarding the Iranian regime’s foul behavior…,” this statement reads. “We believe these pressures enforced by the Iraqi government on Ashraf, at the behest of the Iranian regime, are not in the interests of the future relations between the two nations of Iraq and Iran. We call on the United Nations and all international organizations to assign the protection of Ashraf to an unbiased force. We also express our support for the righteous struggle of the Iranian Resistance.”
“For months now a group affiliated to the Iranian regime has stationed at Camp Ashraf, home to members of the PMOI north of Baghdad. With permission and support provided by the Iraqi government, this group has initiated a psychological war against the PMOI members who are the largest Iranian opposition. They are using these extremely powerful loudspeakers to reiterate baseless and absurd remarks against the PMOI. We in the Kurdistan Intellectuals Society raise our protest regarding the Iranian regime’s foul behavior. We believe these acts are cruel and deceitful behaviors carried out against Iranian civilians who have been forced to flee their country for decades due to the Iranian regime’s tyranny. However, outside Iranian borders they are subjected to the Iranian regime’s cruelty and oppression. We also call on the Iraqi government to not allow individuals originating from outside our borders to breach Iraq’s sovereignty.”
