The Iranian Azeri citizens staged anti-government demonstrations in different cities including Orumiyeh, Ardabil, Meshkinshahr and Naqadeh on Wednesday on the anniversary of suppression of uprising in June 2006.

The uprising took place in protest against publishing a caricature in the governmental newspaper insulting Azeri citizens ; some protesters were killed by the criminal agents of the clerical regime.

In Orumiyeh, over 600 people rallied in Khayyam Street and chanted anti-government slogans. According to received reports, in fear of spreading out the demonstration, anti-riot special unit and State Security Forces (SSF) established an unannounced martial law in the city of Orumiyeh.

In Ardabil, too, a great number of people demonstrated at Imam Street and clashed with the suppressive SSF agents. The agents attacked the people and beat them.

In Naqadeh, a similar demonstration was staged during which some clashes occured between the people and the SSF at the Mohammadyar neighborhood of the city.
