Twelve killed in Baghdad blast: interior ministry

AFP, Baghdad, March 7, 2010  – A massive blast flattened a residential building in Baghdad shortly after Iraqis began voting in parliamentary elections on Sunday, killing 12 people and wounding eight, an official said.
Initial reports indicated that dynamite was used to blow up the building in the north of the city, the interior ministry official said.
There was no immediate indication of why that particular building was targeted.
The attack came amid a spate of blasts across the country as Iraqis cast their ballots in a vote that Al-Qaeda had threatened to sabotage.
