In an interview with Rafidain TV, Nazar al-Samarraii, political analyst from Iraqi Center for Strategic Studies asserted:Since the Iranian regime considers the PMOI as the revolutionary substitute to the fascist Iranian regime, it misuses their presence in Iraq as a pretext to its unbridled meddlig in Iraq
Host: Mr. Allawi’s remarks considers the Iranian regime’s pressures on the present Iraqi government for expulsion of the PMOI unbridled meddling of the Iranian regime in Iraq’s affairs. What do you believe about this ?
Nazar al-Samarraii: The PMOI is in Iraq according to the international covenants, and the United States has supervision on Camp Ashraf and doesn’t let the PMOI have activities out of this camp. On the other hand there is a historic contradiction here. When the ’Qadissiya II’ war was going on between Iran and Iraq, and the Iraqi Air Force managed to launch its missiles deep inside Iran, we remember that Mr. Massoud Rajavi asked Saddam Hussein to halt the bombardments. At that time Muhammad Baqer al-Hakim, leader of the so-called SCIRI asked the Iranian leaders to bomb more cities in Iraq. This is a historic contradiction which should never be forgotten. Therefore, I think Iranian regime has hatred toward Iraqis because they have given refuge to the PMOI in Iraq, because they are an alternative to the fascist Iranian regime.
Thus, I think that as Ayad Allawi said, the continuance of Iran’s meddling under the pretext of PMOI’s presence in Iraq is a flagrant and unbridled meddling in Iraq.
Iran has no right to ask such a request, because this movement is a movement that represents all Iranian people; it is not a separatist movement and it doesn’t ask for freedom of only one region like Turkish PKK. This movement represents all Iranians and is considered as a political weight. It has no activity at the borderline to be a direct threat against Iran. Hence, I think Iran wants to exert pressure on this movement to be extradited to Iran or to be expelled from Iraq. If it happens we can just say that the Iraqi government is a puppet in the hands of Iran. Iranian hands, but I don’t suppose that the US has so far consented to this game and so long as the US doesn’t agree, the Iraqi government could absolutely do nothing.
