Sheikh Adnan Mohammad Bandar of the Sadat Sumaida tribe in Iraq issued a declaration calling for the urgent stationing of a UN monitoring team in Ashraf.
“I was informed of the news of the vicious assault on Ashraf hospital from various media outlets,” Sheikh Adnan said in this declaration. “This act brings nothing but shame for us as Iraqis, at a time when we are expecting this cruel siege to come to an end as quickly as possible… We condemn this criminal act and call for the persecution of the organizers and perpetrators of this crime. Those who organized and carried out the July 2009 catastrophe must know that their time is over, and they cannot conduct such acts to please and serve the Iranian regime. We call on the United Nations and US forces to urgently intervene and do not allow the Iranian regime’s embassy in Iraq carry out its policies in Iraq. We call on the UN to station its monitoring team in Ashraf as soon as possible to oversee the truth of events taking place in the camp.”
