On April 5, 1992, The Iranian regime invaded Iraqi airspace with thirteen F4 and F5 fighter jets and attacked the National Liberation Army base at Camp Ashraf.
Seventy eight 500 pound destructive bombs and twenty 560 pound cluster bombs were used in this attack that led to destruction of a number of buildings. But due to NLA fighters’ awareness and timely anti-air defense response, one fighter jet was downed and the rest left the scene.
Based on information obtained from captured downed plane’s pilots, the assault was planned in the regime’s National Security Council headed by Khamenei himself. A PMOI member Hossein Nik Peyman was killed in the raid. Iranian regime intended to implement the air-assault when people had gathered for Eid al-Fitr prayer and massacre them.
