CNN: Diplomats around the world are urging a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. US Secretary of State John Kerry told Mr. Netanyahu by phone that he supports Israel’s right to defend itself and that the US stands ready to help end the fighting.
The French foreign minister said securing a ceasefire is a top priority.
“The absolute priority is for a ceasefire. There are a large number of victims in Gaza and rockets have been fired at Israel, and in this context and with an absolute disastrous escalation France, liked the United Nations Security Council, asks for the return of the agreement of 2012, which has a ceasefire as its objective.”
UN chief Ban Ki-moon says it’s in the interest of both sides to turn back from a dangerous escalation.
