The name Camp Liberty must have meaning and substance, freedom and peace must be established in it, since the PMOI are the Iraqi people’s guests.
Iraq For All, 5 Nov, 2012 – In an exclusive interview with al Hadath news center, Sheikh Khalaf al Alian underscored that it is essential for us Iraqis and the government that represents the people of Iraq to live up to the traditions and customs of the Iraqi people, which is hospitality, and the PMOI in Iraq are the guests of the Iraqi people. Furthermore, they are here under the terms of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which considers them protected persons. Currently, their name has been removed from the terrorist list, and in my view this is how they must be treated, and not in any other way.
Regarding the fact that the Iraqi Government prevents the entry of reporters into Camp Liberty, Sheikh al Alian said that the media and newspapers have the right to enter any place to seek the facts and inform the public. Local media also have this right. If the Iraqi Government hasn’t breached international laws, then it must allow journalists and reporters to visit Camp Liberty directly and to see the current situation of the refugees there.
Sheikh Khalaf added that Camp Liberty, which is named Hurriya and the PMOI are residing there, must have meaning and substance and freedom and peace must be established there, especially since they are the Iraqi people’s guests.
He stressed that we are Iraqis and the PMOI are our guests and we have the utmost respect for them, and I want the Iraqi Government to treat them in the same manner.
