Middle East strategy ‘destined to fail’: House Intelligence Chairman

US President Barack Obama’s Middle East foreign policy is “failing on every single measurement,” said Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
“They’ve had this containment strategy for ISIS and radical jihad within Iraq and Syria, and it’s destined to failure,” Nunes said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, referring to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. “And it’s failing on every single measurement that you look at.”
Nunes said Russian aggression in the region may eventually force the Obama administration to take military action.
“I think that Putin … has now moved in thousands [of troops], dozens of airplanes,” Nunes said.
He also questioned Obama’s decision to meet with Putin at the United Nations on Monday in New York.
“It’s always good to have dialogue,” Nunes said. “But you’re going to have to, at some point, draw some real red lines in the sand.”
The administration has come under fire for its plan to arm Syrian rebels in the war-torn state, after Central Command said the $500 million program had only trained “four or five” fighters.
