In a threatening letter to Ali Khamenei on June 9, 2009, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani declared: Unfortunately irresponsible and untruthful remarks of Mr. Ahmadinejad during his debate with Moussavi as well as intrigues before that and the afterwards incidents demonstrated the bitter memories of remarks and deeds of hypocrites and anti-revolution groups in early years after the revolution …Since part of these remarks had already been published by state media outlets and its preparatory fire was set in the speech in Mashhad [Khamenei’s speech], such a claim is not acceptable that his remarks were made under the impression of the said debate and were not preplanned; rather it seems they were made to obscure documentary and repeated reports by the Department of Accounts regarding the missing one billion dollars and several thousands of infractions in allocating the budgets; probably he [Ahmadinejad] considers the glories of Islamic Revolution for quarter a century as his main rival…
Casting doubts on the decisions of the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran [i.e. Khomeini] and endeavors of late Imam…. could not be accomplished any worse; the very same brilliant era that you as a vanguard following the Imam, held significant positions and roles such as presidency and ultimately the leadership of the System…

I believe your honor know well that…. new round of allegations and attacks have been going on for five years during when I have tolerated and for the sake of God and for the expedients of the Revolution and the country, I hid my grief…. Nevertheless the important issue is that this time such allegations have been published by the President and in the state media. But of course, I will lay all deviations, unsaid injustice in the elections, and the deeds of Ninth Administration [Ahmadinejad’s government] before the people and history in an appropriate situation…
Even if I patiently keep on my previous manner, undoubtedly part of people, parties and entities will not tolerate this situation anymore and the volcanoes that are fed from the burning hearts will erupt in the society, as we are witnessing its examples in election gatherings in squares, streets and universities.

If a person in presidential position permits himself to perpetrate such mortal and anti-ethical sins irrespective of the dignity of his holy position and despite he has sworn to heed the religion and the law, how can he consider himself a follower of holy Islamic system?
Considering your eminence, responsibility and personality, I expect you to take an effective measure anyhow you deem appropriate to resolve this problem and to remove dangerous seditions and to extinguish the fire which its smoke could be seen in the air right now, and do not allow it get more aflame in the course of elections and afterwards.
