Professor Tanter pointed out: October 25, after intense discussions for months within the Bush administration, the United States decided to put in the black list the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the ideological army of the Iranian regime, and its extraterritorial unit known as the Quds Force, nine other entities affiliated to the IRGC, as well as important commanders.

Washington also included three major Iranian banks in its list of sanctions. This is done at a time that the demonstrations of the students of Tehran that threw Ahmadinejad practically out of their campus, while chanting “Death to the dictator”.

Professor Tanter added: There are three essential options which president Sarkozy will discuss with President Bush: the diplomacy, the military action and an Iranian solution founded on the Iranian people through its main democratic opposition. To avoid facing a nuclear Iran or war, the interests of the US and Europe necessitates putting forward the third option, which is an Iranian solution. The role of Iranian opposition is very important in this regard.
