On Monday and Tuesday, June 29 and 30, 2015, Iraqi forces continued to refrain from giving Camp Liberty residents basic goods and life-support requirements that they have stopped their entry at camp’s gate and thus preventing these items from entering the camp entered its third week.
The held up items are camp’s imperative needs and residents and their representatives have constantly referred to Iraqi officers to receive these items, but by the orders of the Governmental Committee Tasked to Suppress Ashraf which is controlled by Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh Fayyad, the Iraqi forces refuse to give the residents their goods.
Spare parts for camp’s ice-making machines are among the items held up that the residents badly need in the hot weather and during the month of Ramadan.
During this period, residents’ representatives have talked about this problem with UNAMI monitors on a daily basis and have protested the logistical siege of the camp, but no effective measures have been taken.
Obstruction of basic life-support requirements is a violation of humanitarian and human rights standards, as well as many international covenants, and a criminal act meriting prosecution. The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government that have repeatedly and in writing committed themselves to the wellbeing and security of Camp Liberty residents, as well as the European Union and its member states, to adopt immediate measures to end this antihuman siege.
