December 09, 2008

The 105th day of sit-in of Ashraf residents’ families and Iranian Resistance supporters outside of the UN headquarters in Geneva started by saluting the Iranian students who have continued their widespread demonstrations against the clerical regime in Iran in recent days. The sit-in participants sang the anthem “school friend” on the occasion of ‘Students Day’. The participants also sang the anthem “We are men and women of struggle” and chanted “death to despotism” and” gun, tank, Basiji (pro-Iranian regime agents) have no more effect.”

In the Geneva sit-in, Tunne Kelam, member of Foreign Relations Committee of the European Parliament from Estonia who has recently visited Ashraf City, spoke and said: “Our colleague from Estonian salute you; I am very pleased to be on your side; I struggled for 20 days in Geneva for Estonia; my country was under dictatorship for 50 years and 20 percent of its people were killed under that dictatorship and 100,000 of them fled the country. We held demonstration in ‘Nation Square’ of Geneva 20 years ago; nobody believed that day that dictatorship would be eliminated some day; we have to believe in democracy; we realize you and your fight against dictatorship, The freedom could not be divided; freedom is for all human beings.

Tunne Kelam referred to his trip to Ashraf and said: ” We are proud of you that always continue your struggle firmly, and I am sure that you will achieve your goals very soon; I talked today to the Estonian officials and asked them to discuss the case of Ashraf protection with the US Ambassador in their meeting.”

Addressing the sit-in participants, Tunne Kelam said: You must know that you are a member of resistance for humanity; that is why I am very happy to be a member of your resistance.”
