GOP’s Gohmert: Defund Iran nuke deal

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) on Friday said that Congress must use any means it has to stop a poor bargain between the U.S. and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear weapons program, according to The Hill publication, March 27, 2015.
“… We need to defund any effort, make it illegal, to go further on this deal with Iran,” Gohmert said on Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum.”
“In the last 24 hours, the administration basically has already capitulated on almost every important term and now says they’re not going to require verification of what Iran has,” he continued.
“How could you ever have any kind of deal on nuclear talks if you can’t even find out where they are at any given time?” he asked. “It’s just outrageous.”
Reports leaked Thursday that the Obama administration might let Iran operate hundreds of centrifuges at a fortified, underground bunker called Fordo.
The tentative bargain would let Tehran pursue non-military research provided international inspectors were given access to their work.
The Obama administration is hoping Iran will slow or stop its pursuit of atomic bombs in exchange for reduced economic sanctions.
The U.S. is leading a cabal of five other countries — Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia — in talks with diplomats from the Middle Eastern nation.
America and its allies are hoping for a tentative bargain with Tehran by a March 31 deadline. They are aiming for a final agreement by no later than June 30.
Secretary of State John Kerry is serving as the lead U.S. representative for negotiations this weekend. He met Iranian delegates Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland for the latest round of talks.
