Ahmadinejad insists again on Evin Prison visit, fueling internal disputes

Despite Khamenei’s faction stressing to Ahmadinejad to fall back on his request to visit Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, Ahmadinejad wrote a second fiery letter to mullah Larijani, head of Iran’s judiciary branch, insisting on his intent to visit this prison.
In response to Larijani’s secret letter, Ahmadinejad wrote in an open letter with an unprecedented tone, “Your response dating 21 October 2012, designated as ‘Top Secret’, intensifies the current situation and does not abide by numerous constitutional principles. Since these letters are related to the people’s fundamental rights, there is no need to make them confidential.”
“You have emphasized on two occasions that visiting Evin Prison is not in the interest of the state, and you have said once that you do not agree with such a measure. I must remind you that in the principles of the constitution, there is no mentioning of a permission or agreement needed from the judicial branch for the legal implementation of the president’s actions,” Ahmadinejad said.
“Your Excellency has very easily accused me of a crime. Although I consider a ruling against Mr. Javanfekr (Ahmadinejad’s press advisor) to be completely legal, the fact is that the judicial procedures are over with. He is now serving his time in prison. How can visiting a prisoner in prison be considered supporting a criminal? While Your Excellency very easily accuses the President, can one truly imagine judicial security for the ordinary people of this country? I must say that this type of behavior has become a normal trend in the judicial branch,” the letter continues.
