15th anniversary of renowned Iran poet’s death; ceremony under tight security

Friday, July 24 marked the 15th anniversary of the death of renowned Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlu. The ‘Iran Writers Center’ invited all of fans and readers for a ceremony on this day, which was held under intense security as the regime’s plainclothes security agents were stationed at the site.
The Iran Writers Center said these security agents gave an ultimatum to its members to end the ceremony and ask the people to leave the site.
Shamlu passed away in July 2000 after enduring several illnesses for years. To this day his grave and tombstone has been damaged and broken many times by unknown agents.
