Iraqi National Front criticizes Fayaz’ remarks against Ashraf residents

Following the petition of 210,000 Iraqis to the UN expressing their abhorrence on inhumane pressures enforced by the Iraqi government against Ashraf and Liberty residents, the Iraqi National Front issued a statement criticizing Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh Fayaz’s remarks against Ashraf and Liberty residents.

The statement is as follows:
In recent days and while Maliki’s government claims the implementation of political reforms and distancing from autocratic methods in political and security dossiers, the Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor blatantly threatened to use violence to place Ashraf residents in Liberty prison without providing their minimum necessities and legitimate humanitarian demands. This stance resulted in widespread responses in the society and amongst political forces, and 210,000 Iraqis expressed their repugnance regarding these threats.
This impression remains that these remarks are a flagrant violation of the agreement signed with the UN, however UN Special Representative Martin Kobler’s stance vis-à-vis these remarks have actually assisted such a position by Fayaz, which are with no doubt aimed at implementing Tehran’s demands and resulting from the Iranian regime’s new pressures and interferences in Iraq. During this process the UN has not been able to play its role because the organization itself has become a party in the political considerations.
These days MPs from various political factions have described these threats as against the Iraqi people’s national demands and interests. Official Iraqiya Coalition spokespersons have warned of a new massacre against Ashraf residents. Representatives of the Kurdistan Faction have described any new incursion against the rights, lives and properties of the defenseless Ashraf residents as inhumane. Finally, Dr. Saleh Mutlak, Deputy Prime Minister and Iraqi National Front Secretary-General announced any involuntary relocation of the residents as illegal and called on the UN to halt any further transfer until minimum humanitarian needs are provided for the residents.
Iraqi National Front offices and branches in Kirkuk, Salahaddin, Diyala, al-Anbar, Baghdad, Babel, Wasset, Central Forat and southern provinces along with their people consider Ashraf residents as their true guests. The Iraqi National Front expresses its solidarity with popular initiatives in condemning any aggression against the residents and considers itself a part of this honorable general camping.
We have previously announced that the project of turning Liberty into a prison and harassing Ashraf residents is a disgrace for human rights standards, and silence in this regard is shameful. The UN, US and EU who provided commitments to Ashraf residents for this relocation must not remain silent against this atrocious cruelty. Paying the price of appeasing the mullahs’ regime through its opposition in Iraq is a shameful and unacceptable measure.
Continuing the relocation project and imposing pressure in this regard is a plan aimed at appeasing the Iranian regime, which the Iraqi people do not accept. We believe the UN must immediately assume the responsibility of Camp Liberty and raise the UN flag in this camp.
