AFP, London, 22 Oct 2013 – Western and Arab powers meeting with Syrian opposition leaders in London agreed Tuesday that President Bashar al-Assad could not be part of any future government, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said.
Hague told a press conference that at the meeting — which is being held ahead of a peace conference in Geneva next month — they had agreed a “number of important steps” which included that “Assad will play no role in that future government of Syria.”
