Angry youth and residents stayed in the streets of Mahabad until late in the evening hours and even in to early hours of morning Friday clashing with the State Security forces dispatched from cities nearby Mahabad.
Due to the widespread and large number of people demonstrating, the clerical regime had brought reinforcement units from towns and cities nearby and even far from the epicenter of unrest.
The demonstration begun following the tragic death of a young 26-year-old girl who lost her life while trying to escape a sexual attack on herself by an intelligence ministry officer at the hotel she used to work.
Farinaz, Khosravani jumped from the fourth floor of the hotel TARA apparently to escape the man who was trying to molest and abuse her. This tragic event led to her death which sparked a widespread demonstration in the city of Mahabad. People and youth attacked the hotel setting it on fire and clashing with the security forces and breaking and destroying cars and motorcycles belonged to the government forces as well as intelligent ministry.
Farinaz was a computer graduate technician who supported her family through the salary received by working in that hotel.
Reports indicate that the unnamed intelligence ministry agent in question had made a deal with the hotel owner to give a 5-Star rating to the hotel which would boost the hotel profits, in return for abusing the innocent young Farinaz. But as the man had tried to perform his diabolical scheme, Farinaz escaped through the window and fell to the ground from the fourth floor of the building.
Mahabad people shouted “My sister, Farinaz” and “We are all Farinaz.”.
