Sheikh Taisir al-Tamimi, Palestine’s Chief Judge, and President of the Palestinian Higher Judiciary Council of Sharia and member of the Islamic Arabic Committee in Defense of Ashraf and the founder of the Jerusalem Center for Studies and Human Rights, criticized the Iraqi government for not allowing a delegation from the European Parliament led by Struan Stevenson, member of the EP and President of the Committee for Relations with Iraq, to visit Ashraf.
The Supreme Judge acknowledged this act as a step towards covering up the current situation in Ashraf and preventing the world from being informed of the truth of the conditions there, and said: “On April 8, in the attack on Ashraf, Iraqi forces killed 35 residents and injured over 300, of which many are in critical conditions”.
Dr. Taisir al-Tamimi once again urged the international community to secure the protection of Ashraf residents and to send a fact finding mission to investigate the flagrant violations of human rights and the suffering of the injured, and called on Islamic and Arabic Medias to pay attention to this humanitarian issue and reveal the behavior and breaches against the Ashraf residents.
